One last summer cucumber story… fried pickles!

September 12, 2009

Last week Jason whipped up a batch of refrigerator pickles with the remaining fruits of the vine prior to its removal for the year. They were excellent! The only thing more excellent was his idea to deep fry these pickles (and some of the garlic cloves floating in the jar). When they were ready we served them up with some fried potatoes and garden tomato/day-old bread salad. It was so good we had to call the neighbors to join us in this fried bounty.

Here is how he made the batter: mix 3 parts white flour with 1 part cornmeal, add some S & P and red pepper for seasoning. Add water to dry ingredients until batter-y. Dip pickles in batter, roll in coarsely ground cornmeal and drop in very hot oil. Fry on both sides for 2 minutes or until crispy and golden.
