Fave 5 hot cereals

Fall has me appreciating some hot cereal in the morning. The list below all take less than ten minutes to prepare, even with a cloudy-headed morning. I usually make/eat my cereal while putting my lunch together for work. Hot cereals are inexpensive and loaded in hunger-quenching fiber, and are one of the easiest ways to sneak in some soluble fiber to your diet. What’s not to love? Except maybe the gummy pots they leave behind in the sink.

Here’s a list of my fave five and how I like them:

1. Bob’s Red Mill Muesli, with soymilk, brown sugar and extra dried fruit
2. Quaker Oat Bran, made with water and a little soy margarine, salt and maple syrup
3. Grits (any brand, really) with soy margarine, nutritional yeast, Louisiana Hot Sauce and black beans on the side
4. Farina (whose tagline is the “creamy, hot white cereal”?!), with cinnamon sugar or with some fruit filled jam and salt
5. Apples and Cinnamon Instant Cream of Wheat, a childhood choice from the multi-flavored box of Instant Cream of Wheat that needs no additions.
